A wireless LAN lets users roam around a building (equipped with a wireless LAN card) and stay connected to their network without being connected to a wire.
A wireless LAN (WLAN) is a local area network (LAN) without wires. It allows a group of computers and associated devices that share a common communications line and typically share the resources of a single processor or server within a small geographic area (for example, within an office building).
WLANs transfer data through the air using radio frequencies instead of cables. They can reach a radius of 100 metres indoors and 300 metres outdoors, but antennas, transmitters and other access devices can be used to widen that area. WLANs require a wired access point (Broadband Router) that plugs all the wireless devices into the wired network.
